Hi everyone, As the warm weather continues, it is great to see more people are enjoying parks and open spaces. During our foot patrols recently, we have noticed some homes with windows left open. We completely understand that everyone wants to keep their homes cool, but unfortunately an open window is an open door and can provide an easy opportunity for burglar.
Home Security Close and lock all doors and windows when leaving your home, even for a short time. Avoid leaving ground-floor or easily accessible windows open, especially overnight. Use window restrictors where possible for ventilation. Keep valuables out of sight and secure rear doors, side gates and sheds. Consider using a doorbell camera or CCTV.
Personal Safety & Theft Prevention Keep bags, phones and valuables close, especially in busy areas. Never leave belongings unattended in parks, cafes or pubs. Lock your vehicle and remove valuables from sight.
Shed and Garage Security First off, check that your insurance covers the contents of your shed or outbuildings from theft. Consider a battery-operated shed alarm. They look low key, but they respond to movement or door contact with an extremely loud siren. Property mark your items and take photographs of them. Some tools can be painted with your name or postcode, and forensic marking is also an option. You can also register any item that has a serial number with Immobilise.
Staying Safe on Nights Out Stay with friends and plan your journey home. Use licensed taxis or trusted transport.
Anti-Social Behaviour If you experience noise nuisance, street drinking or other anti-social behaviour, please report it early to Harrow Council or Met Police
