It's Just A Picture?... |
||
|
Once you click send…you have NO control over how the image is shared.
Before you send a pic of yourself… *Why do I want to send this? *Is it just between us? *What if this goes viral? *Who can help me?
I've been asked to send a pic… Always think twice before you send a revealing picture. As soon as you send a picture you lose control of where it ends up. It may seem harmless but make sure it's not something you later regret.
I've sent a pic…what should I do?… First of all, don't panic. Speak to an adult you can trust for support (parent/teacher at school). If it has been posted online there are people who can help.
My pic has bone viral… If you are under 18 and an explicit image of you has been shared online, Childline can help get it removed…How? Firstly download the YOTI app. YOTI is a free digital identity app that is the easiest, most secure way to verify your identity. Creating an accounts couldn't be easier and can be registered in under five minutes with five simple steps.
Take a selfie and then add a photo of an ID document using your phone. This is to verify your age. YOTI then transforms your details into a digital identity with advanced hybrid encryption to keep your details safe.
For more information on how to create a YOTI account and how details are kept safe, then visit: www.yoti.com/personal.
Will I get in trouble? Even though under the age of 18 the image(s) you may have sent could be considered an indecent image of a child, the law is not designed to punish young people for making mistakes. But…police could be involved if images are sent to intentionally hurt someone else.
Next step… Visit the following website:https://contentreporting.childline.org.uk Follow steps two and three, as you will have already created a YOTI account. This service is operated by the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) and brought to you by Childline.
Who can help me… There are lots of people that you can go to for support and help. Think who is the best person for you. Anyone who is trained to support young people should be able to help you. if you want to speak to an organisation, you can visit any of the following:
