Scooter/Moped Recovered Before It Was Even Reported Stolen!
A vigilant member of the public spotted a scooter parked on a footpath near a local park and thought its location looked unusual. They flagged this to us, and having attended the location it was immediately apparent that something wasn't quite right. The scooter had signs of damage to the controls, which raised further suspicion. Checks of police systems showed that the scooter had not been reported as stolen at the time. However, given its unusual location and the damage present, officers made the decision to recover the scooter to prevent any further loss and to safeguard it whilst enquiries were carried out. A visit was made to the registered keeper's address, but unfortunately there was no answer. Later that same day, the motorcycle was officially reported as stolen. Thanks to the member of the public and the proactive actions of officers, the scooter had already been recovered before it could disappear completely. The good news is that the owner will now be reunited with their vehicle.
A great example of how reporting something that doesn't look quite right can make a real difference.
