Cannabis Use in the Community

We have received reports of cannabis use and a strong smell of cannabis in the area.

Cannabis remains a Class B controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. Possessing cannabis without a valid prescription is illegal and can result in police action. The maximum penalty for possession is up to 5 years' imprisonment, an unlimited fine, or both. Supplying, producing or cultivating cannabis carries even more serious penalties. The use of cannabis can have a negative impact on local residents, affecting quality of life through persistent odours, anti-social behaviour concerns, and fears relating to drug activity. Information provided by residents helps police build an intelligence picture and identify locations causing concern.
