Home Safety During the Hot Weather! |

Keep Your Home Secure
Good evening Resident
As temperatures rise across Wolverhampton, many people open windows and doors to keep their homes cool. While fresh air is important during periods of hot weather, it's equally important to think about your home's security. West Midlands Police is reminding residents to take simple precautions to help prevent opportunistic burglaries.
Don't Leave Windows Open When You're Out An open window can provide an easy way for a burglar to gain access to your home, particularly if it is left open while the property is empty. Before leaving your house, even for a short time: Close and lock all accessible windows and doors. Remove keys from locks and keep them out of sight. Ensure ground floor windows are fully secured. Don't assume a small opening is safe – it may still be large enough for someone to reach through or climb in. Keep Valuables Out of Sight Open windows can also make it easier for criminals to see valuable items inside your home. Keep laptops, handbags, car keys, jewellery and other valuables away from windows where they can be easily spotted.
Stay Cool Safely When you're at home, you can still enjoy fresh air while reducing security risks: Open windows that are less accessible, such as those upstairs, where it is safe to do so. Use window restrictors where fitted. Lock doors, even if you're relaxing in the garden. Keep side gates and sheds secure to prevent access to the rear of your property.
Look Out for Your Neighbours If you're going away during the warmer weather, ask a trusted neighbour, friend or family member to keep an eye on your property, collect post and report anything suspicious. Likewise, if you notice unusual activity around a neighbour's home, don't ignore it. Trust your instincts and report suspicious behaviour. Help Us Keep Wolverhampton Safe A few simple steps can make a big difference in protecting your home and your belongings.
