Title: Community Reassurance During Live Facial Recognition Operation – Ilford Town Centre Date: 07 July 2026 On 07 July 2026, Ilford Town Ward participated in a joint operation alongside neighbouring ward teams in support of a Metropolitan Police Live Facial Recognition (LFR) deployment within Ilford Town Centre. Throughout the operation, PCSO Sethi 7025EA and PCSO Khan engaged with members of the public, commuters, local businesses, and shopkeepers, providing reassurance and fostering positive relationships between the Metropolitan Police Service and the local community. Officers spoke with numerous individuals throughout the day, explaining the purpose of the operation, answering questions regarding police activity, and addressing concerns relating to community safety. The engagement focused on maintaining public confidence and ensuring that residents, visitors, and business owners felt informed and reassured throughout the deployment. Positive interactions were recorded with a wide range of community members, many of whom welcomed the police presence and the proactive measures being taken to tackle crime and keep the town centre safe. The operation was highly successful, resulting in a total of eight arrests for a variety of offences. This outcome demonstrated the effectiveness of partnership working between local ward officers and neighbouring policing teams in identifying wanted individuals and supporting wider crime reduction objectives across the borough. PCSO Sethi and PCSO Khan also took the opportunity to provide crime prevention advice and encourage members of the public to report criminal activity and anti-social behaviour. The engagement helped strengthen trust and confidence in local policing while reinforcing the Metropolitan Police Service's commitment to keeping communities safe. Outcome: | ||
