From Wheelies to Walkies

Good afternoon all,

I hope everyone is out enjoying the nice weather and had a great time yesterday at the Big Burnage parade, it was great to see so many of you and lots of local residents coming together to support local groups.

Over the past month your Burnage and Withington neighbourhood officers have been out and about in plain clothes and unmarked vehicles to help tackle illegal electric bikes being used in an anti-social manner and used to commit other offences such as robberies and car thefts. Whilst on patrol around the Lady Barn Park area two electric bikes were sighted traveling at speeds of 60mph weaving in and out of traffic and pulling wheelies in front of motorists. Being in an unmarked car it allows us to get much closer to these criminals and the riders remain unaware the police are behind them, after being followed into Burnage and a quick stop and foot chase two riders were detained and bikes seized, both bikes will now be sent to the crusher.

We are committed to tackling Anti Social Behaviour including these bikes causing nuisance around Burnage and Withington, This is not the only example we have, we will continue to target these offenders.

Just a reminder that the next Coffee with a Cop event is at the Costa Coffee inside Tesco on Burnage Lane on Saturday 25th July 2026 between 11:00 – 13:00. I encourage you all to come along to speak to your local officers about any concern you may have.
