Community Engagement Event – Brownie Visit |
On the 29th of June 2026, I had the privilege of attending a community engagement event with a local Brownie group. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to interact with the children and foster positive relationships between the police and the community. During the event, I explained the daily roles and responsibilities of police officers, giving the children an insight into the diverse and important work we undertake to keep communities safe. I also showcased our police vehicle, allowing the children to explore its features and understand how it supports our operational duties. Additionally, I demonstrated the equipment we use, explaining its purpose and how it assists us in our work. As part of the visit, I spoke to the children about the dangers of drink driving and outlined the procedures we follow when dealing with such offences. This included explaining the preliminary roadside tests, evidential sample collection, and the importance of body-worn video (BWV) in documenting interactions and evidence during these cases. The event was a valuable opportunity to engage with the children and their leaders, answering their questions and addressing their curiosity about policing. It was rewarding to see their enthusiasm and interest in learning about our work. Events like these are vital for building trust and confidence within the community, particularly with younger generations, and for promoting awareness of important safety issues such as road traffic offences. Overall, the visit was a positive experience, and I look forward to participating in similar events in the future to continue fostering strong community relationships and promoting public safety.
Kind regards,
