Targeted Operation Sees Five Illegal Electric Bikes Seized and Multiple Arrests Across Oldham Residents may have noticed an increased police presence across Oldham yesterday as part of a targeted operation aimed at tackling the ongoing issues surrounding off-road bikes, illegally modified electric bikes and anti-social riding. As discussed at recent PACT meetings, the Neighbourhood Policing Team is fully aware of the concerns being raised by local communities and remains committed to addressing this issue. Yesterday's operation demonstrated that commitment through a coordinated effort involving the Neighbourhood Team and specialist policing resources from across Greater Manchester Police. The operation was led through a joint partnership approach involving the Specialist Operations Team, including the National Police Air Service (NPAS), Dog Unit, Roads Policing Unit, Motorcycle Unit and neighbourhood officers. Using intelligence gathered around known problem areas, resources were deployed across Oldham during the afternoon, with NPAS providing aerial support and monitoring from above. Within the first hour of the operation, officers identified an illegally modified electric bike. Working closely with NPAS, ground units were directed to the rider, who was followed to an address in the St James area. Officers subsequently arrested the male rider after he was found in possession of a quantity of drugs with intent to supply. The illegal electric bike was also seized. Shortly afterwards, officers pursued a second Surron motorcycle. Although the rider managed to evade capture, patrols remained in the area and continued to respond to sightings and intelligence. The combination of dedicated ground resources and aerial support allowed officers to maintain a strong presence throughout the operation. The operation also delivered wider policing benefits. While deployed in the area, NPAS identified a stolen vehicle in Bury. Following a coordinated response, the vehicle was safely recovered and three suspects were detained. By the conclusion of the operation at 8pm, officers had: The Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to thank residents for their continued support and the information they provide. We understand the impact that illegal off-road and electric bikes can have on communities and want to reassure residents that this remains a priority. We will continue to work alongside specialist units to identify offenders, seize vehicles being used illegally and take positive action against those causing harm and disruption in our neighbourhoods. If you have information about illegal bike activity in your area, please continue to report it to GMP so that we can build intelligence and take action where possible.
