Algeria Independence Day |
July 5 is Algeria Independence Day.
Algeria gained independence from France on July 5 1962. It followed an eight year - often brutal -struggle against a European power, the legacy of which is still controversial in France today. There are large concentrations of Arab nationals living in London today. The Algerian community is estimated to be the sixth largest - figures are put at between 20,000 - 25,000. There are concentrations of Algerian nationals in areas like Finsbury Park - christened “Little Algiers” - and the east end of London including NE-CU.
Sending Best Wishes to everyone celebrating.
