I wanted to provide you with an update regarding ASB- Nuisance motorcycles, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. 🚔 Operation Stormecho – Enforcement Phase Now Underway
Operation Stormecho was launched by the Suburban Neighbourhood Policing Team in May 2026 to address community concerns surrounding the illegal use of e-scooters, off-road bikes and the misuse of VOI rental scooters across Northampton. The operation has been delivered in phases:
✅ May – Identification and Intelligence Gathering During May, officers focused on identifying hotspot locations and analysing reports received from residents to better understand where illegal vehicle use was having the greatest impact on our communities.
✅ June – Education and Prevention Throughout June, neighbourhood officers visited local schools and educational settings to engage with young people, parents and staff. These sessions focused on legislation, road safety, the risks associated with illegal vehicle use, and the consequences of offending.
✅ July to September – Enforcement and Positive Action
We have now entered the enforcement phase of Operation Stormecho. Between now and the end of September, officers will be carrying out targeted patrols and intelligence-led operations across identified hotspot locations.
Those found using e-scooters illegally, riding off-road bikes unlawfully, or misusing VOI scooters can expect positive action to be taken, including vehicle seizures where legislation permits.
The operation has already resulted in several vehicles being seized, and enforcement activity will continue throughout the summer.
During our recent Stormecho Survey, you the public raised concerns around how to report this information. We continue to encourage residents to report concerns and provide information to help us identify offenders and direct patrols to areas where they are needed most. All information regarding these problems can be sent to;

Thank you for your continued support in helping keep Northampton's communities safe.
 Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police. February 2025 saw the publication of the Ministry of Justice Crime and Policing Bill: Antisocial behaviour (ASB) factsheet. This outlined a number of new measures including making powers to seize vehicles under section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 easier to use, allowing the police to react robustly and immediately to the anti-social use of motor vehicles. More information about antisocial behaviour and nuisance use of vehicles and motorbikes can be found at www.northants.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at www.northants.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
