Number Plate - Theft

Good afternoon,

We have recently seen an increase in reports of vehicle number plate thefts across the Cannon Hill Ward area.

To help protect your vehicle, please consider the following crime prevention advice:

✅ Use anti-tamper or security screws to secure your number plates. These are inexpensive and make it much harder for thieves to remove plates.

✅ Park in well-lit, busy areas whenever possible and consider using CCTV-covered car parks.

✅ Check your number plates regularly to ensure they remain securely attached.

✅ Report suspicious activity around vehicles immediately. Individuals removing number plates, particularly at night, should be challenged only if safe to do so and reported to police.

✅ Consider installing CCTV or a video doorbell if your vehicle is parked at home.

✅ Keep a record of your registration number, vehicle make, model and VIN to assist with reporting if a theft occurs.

Stolen number plates are often used to commit further offences such as making off without payment, speeding offences, or other criminal activity while concealing the identity of the offending vehicle.

If your number plates are stolen, report it to the police as soon as possible and contact the DVLA as soon as possible.
