Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Awareness Week: Taking action to protect the vulnerable and community |
||
|
Dear Resident
During ASB Awareness Week, we’re highlighting real examples of how partnership working and swift police action can make a real difference in protecting vulnerable people and tackling anti-social behaviour. ASB is defined as conduct that causes, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm, or distress to any person not of the same household. Following reports from the community about ASB and suspected cuckooing (where individuals take over the home of a vulnerable person to use as a base for illegal activities) at an address in North Herts, the Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) and Community Safety Unit (CSU) acted quickly to assess the situation. North Herts CSU Sergeant Andrew Blackwood said: “Early enquiries identified the resident and highlighted her vulnerabilities, prompting immediate safeguarding considerations. “Officers worked closely with the landlord to gather further information and understand any concerns. This partnership approach helped us build a clear intelligence picture of what was happening.” Analysis of reports showed a worrying increase in ASB and crime linked to the address, with two visitors regularly associated with the property. He said: “Acting on this intelligence, officers attended the address and found both suspects inside. They were arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession with intent to supply drugs (PWITS), bringing an immediate halt to the activity. “They were later released on bail with strict conditions not to return, preventing further harm and avoiding the need for additional enforcement powers.”
Safeguarding the victim remained the top priority throughout:
He added: “This case demonstrates the impact of a fast, intelligence-led response and strong partnership working. Early intervention can disrupt exploitation, reduce ASB and protect those most at risk.” 👉 If you suspect cuckooing or anti-social behaviour in your community, report it, your information could help safeguard someone in need. 🔗 Find out more about ASB https://www.herts.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/asb/asb/antisocial-behaviour/ 🔗 Find out more about cuckooing : www.herts.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/cuckooing/cuckooing/ | ||
