Think ahead, not after the final whistle |

With England’s fourth game kicking off early today, fans across York and North Yorkshire will be gathering to watch. We’ll once again be increasing patrols across the county to help keep everyone safe. Officers will be highly visible throughout busy town and city centres, as well as on key routes, with a clear focus on preventing incidents before they happen. Our presence will be stepped up during and after the match to ensure people can enjoy the occasion safely.
While many people plan ahead, some still take risks. We’ll be proactively targeting drink and drug driving, and will take robust action against anyone found behind the wheel under the influence. With an earlier kick-off, it can be easy to think you’re fine to drive later on - but alcohol and drugs can stay in your system far longer than you might expect. Don’t take that chance.
If you’re heading out to watch the game, plan your journey home in advance. Arrange a lift, book a taxi, use public transport, or plan to stay over - but don’t drive after drinking or taking drugs. Let’s support England safely and make it a night to enjoy for all the right reasons.
