During the last week there has been two reported opportunist thefts from motor vehicles across our ward. Whilst on patrols during this heatwave we notice more car windows and sunroofs left open as well as a car door left open with valuables in view. Opportunist criminals look for easy targets. Leaving a van door open whilst away for a moment unloading, leaving a car window slightly open or failing to double-check that your vehicle is locked gives thieves a perfect opening. It only takes a matter of seconds for them to strike. To keep your vehicle secure; Roll them up completely: Even a tiny gap in a window allows thieves to slide tools inside, fish for valuables, or gain leverage to pull the window down. The "handle check": Don't just rely on the click of your key fob. Always physically pull the door handle to confirm the central locking has engaged.Hide every item: Never leave bags, coats, sunglasses, or loose change on display. If a cabin looks empty, a thief will move on. Empty the glovebox: Leave your empty glove box wide open to show opportunistic thieves there is absolutely nothing of value inside.Protect keyless cars: If you drive a keyless entry car, store your keys in a signal-blocking Faraday pouch to prevent criminals from using relay devices to unlock your vehicle from outside your house. |
