Reporting Incidents to Kent Police

Good morning Resident,

I wanted to drop a quick message to you about how members of the public can go about reporting incidents to Kent Police.

Whilst I tend to find that the public are aware of how they can contact Kent Police over the phone, there are now a number of alternative ways to let Kent Police know about an incident or crime. Regardless of how you report incidents to us, you will always be kept anonymous and police officers will not tell those involved in the incident who has reported the incident to the Police.

The current ways to report incidents to Kent Police are:

999 - If there is risk to life, persons getting hurt or property getting damaged.

101 - If the incident doesn't meet an immediate response from the Police, or if the incident has ended and there is not an imminent risk to someone.

Livechat - This option is like 101, but instead of speaking to a calltaker over the phone you are messaging them instead. This option can be accessed through the Kent Police website and regardless of whether you are on your mobile phone or computer, the ‘Livechat’ option is always at the bottom right of the Kent Police homepage.

Online Crime Reports - You can now report incidents or crimes online on the Kent Police website. Once submitted, the online form will get passed through to Kent Police's force control room where it will be reviewed. Sometimes it may require that our staff need to speak to you to get further detail, so please provide a telephone number. The information provided can be sent off for a crime report to be created, for a police officer or PCSO to take action, passed to the relevant department etc.

So for example if you were at The Glen and you've spotted a motorbike rider driving dangerously around the open green space and the rider was getting extremely close to other members of the public, I would be more than happy for this to be reported via 999. If however, the incident happened several minutes prior and the riders have since left, then reporting this via 101 or Livechat is the most appropriate option. Any information provided helps Kent Police try to identify the suspects and take action. Alternatively even if incidents are reported after they've finished, this also go towards local crime statistics and helps us determine where resources are needed in the short and long term.
