I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Road safety issues (Speeding), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. π¦ Community Speedwatch β Making Roads Safer Kent Police runs Community Speedwatch, a volunteer-led initiative focused on reducing speeding and improving safety. What is Speedwatch? π₯ Local volunteers, trained by Kent Police, monitor speeds at approved sites (20, 30, or 40 mph zones) using certified equipment. π Details of speeding vehicles are securely logged for 12 months. Repeat or excessive offenders may receive advisory lettersβand in some cases, personal visits from officers. Important: Speedwatch is educational, not enforcement. No fines or penalty points are issued directly, but the data helps target police action and inform road safety improvements. β
Does it work? Yes! Over 90% of drivers recorded speeding once are not seen again within 12 months, and overall speeding reduces in communities over time. π Want to help? If you can spare an hour a week, join us! π www.kent.police.uk/speedwatch On Tuesday 23rd June 2026, your Local neighbourhood Police Officer PC 15621 SHIPLEY with a colleague PC 15907 BALCOMBE-WILSON attended to concerns surrounding speeding in Hextable, this had been raised via the priority surveys, members of the public attending 'coffee with a cop' / police surgeries held with the St Peters Church, College Road ( next one is booked for Tuesday 11th August between 10-1100hrs).
Officers attended LOWER ROAD and COLLEGE ROAD, and SWANLEY LANE. Several vehicles close to the mark where stopped and spoken to on LOWER ROAD. COLLEAGE ROAD all vehicles checked were driving within the 30MPH speed limit for that road. Unfortunately, as the officers were about to do SWANLEY LANE they were called away to answer a nearby emergency graded call but fear not, plans will me made to attend Hextable again soon and we will again try and visit all three locations and those found driving above the speed limit in excess will be spoken to and dealt with at the roadside.
A thank you to the residents that spoke to us offering their support and encourage, whether that was living near by or who stopped in their vehicles and to those who kindly offered to buy officers a drink in the swelting heat we are all currently experiencing.
Stay safe, Slow down and remember 'SPEED KILLS'.
