OPEN WATER WARNING

Officers have today dealt with a number of teenagers who have been found swimming and jumping in to the River Tame. This comes in addition to other reports of youths in other bodies of water across #Tamworth during the heatwave.

Fortunately, today nobody was harmed. However, in light of recent open water related tragedies across the UK we believe it prudent to highlight the dangers of unsupervised open water swimming in the hope we can prevent any further drownings.

Parents, please spend just a few minutes discussing these three key points with your children - it could save their life:

💧 Explain the hidden dangers of open water and encourage them to visit a supervised pool instead. 

💧 Ensure they know to float, instead of thrash if they get into difficulty. 

💧 Remind them to never enter the water to rescue someone else - instead ring 999 and use the what3words app to mark their location.
