Community Safety Reminder During the Heatwave |
||
|
Good afternoon! With the warmer weather, we know many people may be tempted to cool off in local rivers, streams, and lakes. While this can be appealing, we would like to remind everyone of the serious risks associated with entering open water. These can include strong currents, hidden hazards, sudden drops in depth, and cold-water shock — all of which can be extremely dangerous, even for strong swimmers. We strongly advise you refrain from entering the water. Please also keep an eye on children and ensure they understand the risks. It may look safe from the outside, but what's underneath can be extremely dangerous, and at times fatal. If you see anyone struggling and in distress, call 999 immediately. Let’s all work together to stay safe and look out for one another during this period of hot weather. Thank you for your understanding, and take care out there! Kind regards, Didcot & Wallingford Neighbourhood Policing Team | ||
