Water Safety

Good afternoon,

As you are all aware, we are experiencing very hot weather. With the hot weather, this brings with it the temptation to find the nearest water source to take a dip and cool off. However, this also brings its dangers. With these dangers in mind, can I pass the following advice.

STOP AND THINK- Take time to assess your surroundings. Look for dangers and always research local signs and advice

STAY TOGETHER- When around water always go with family and friends. Swim at a lifeguarded venue

FLOAT- Fall in or become tired; stay calm, float on your back and call for help. Throw something that floats to somebody that has fallen in.

CALL 999- Ask for Fire and Rescue Service when inland and the Coastguard if at the coast. Don't enter the water to rescue.

Can I also make everyone aware, that at the end of May, a number of children fell ill after spending time in the River Tawe. I am aware that local Councillor Bailey has requested information from the relevant agencies regarding this matter. With this in mind, swimming in the River Tawe is not advised.
