Tombstoning- Cold water shock |

|
🥵It’s hot, but don’t be tempted | Cold water shock
Jumping or diving into water from cliffs, bridges, harbours or piers when you don’t know what’s beneath the surface is extremely risky.
There is also the strong risk of cold water shock - the incapacitating effect on the body of entering water 15°C and below (and deep water will be much colder than the temperature on land) is often underestimated. This shock can be the precursor to drowning.
Parents should be aware where their children are to make sure they are not taking part in this dangerous behaviour, to keep them safe. Everyone should observe prohibition notices on bridges, harbours and other locations near the water.
