Fly Tipping |
||
|
Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of liquid or solid waste on land or in water. The waste is usually dumped to avoid disposal costs. Fly-tipping can be hazardous to health, causes environmental damage, looks unsightly and costs considerable sums of taxpayers' money to clean up.
It occurs in both urban and rural areas and clearing it up costs Scottish local authorities more than £2.5 million each year. It also undermines legitimate waste businesses, where illegal operators undercut those operating within the law.
This occurs on public and private land both of which are illegal. If the items are on public land please contact your local council to remove them. If the items are on private land it is the private land owners responsibility to remove the items.
Fly Tipping is one of the most unreported crimes to Police Scotland and is on the SPARC Priority Portfolio for Environmental Crime.
What should you do if you have an on going fly tipping incident - contact Police Scotland on 101. If the incident has happened over night please report on 101 or contact.us on the Police Scotland internet page where the incident will be logged for recording purposes only. Police Scotland will not remove the fly tipping items. | ||
