Catalytic Converter Theft Prevention Advice We have received reports of catalytic converter thefts affecting vehicles across London. Criminals can remove a catalytic converter in just a few minutes, often targeting vehicles parked on driveways, residential streets and public car parks. It is believed that this offence has began to increase again due to the increase in price around precious metals. Vehicles commonly targeted include: How to protect your vehicle: ✅ Park in a garage whenever possible. ✅ If parking on a driveway, park close to a wall, fence or another vehicle to restrict access underneath your car. ✅ Choose well-lit areas covered by CCTV where available. ✅ Consider fitting a catalytic converter security device, cage or shield. ✅ Have your vehicle's registration number or VIN marked on the catalytic converter. ✅ Ensure any alarms or security systems are activated. ✅ Be vigilant for suspicious activity, particularly individuals seen underneath parked vehicles or using jacks and power tools. Report suspicious behaviour If you witness suspicious activity or believe a theft is taking place, call 999 immediately. For non-emergency information or to report concerns, contact police via 101 or online. Your vigilance can help prevent crime and identify offenders.
