National neighbourhood policing week - Local concerns update

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Nuisance motorbikes / Scooters, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

Officers have been working hard across South Wales this week as part of the national Neighbourhood Policing Week.

The Llantwit Major Neighbourhood Policing Team have continued to address the ongoing concerns raised by local residents regarding the anti-social use of illegal electric and off-road bikes.

This illegal e-bike was seized after being sighted riding through Llantwit Major town centre at speed and was found to be capable of over 60mph.

The rider, who lives locally was educated on the law regarding e-bikes and his bike has since been crushed, contributing to safer streets for pedestrians and road users.

Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police.

February 2025 saw the publication of the Ministry of Justice Crime and Policing Bill: Antisocial behaviour (ASB) factsheet. This outlined a number of new measures including making powers to seize vehicles under section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 easier to use, allowing the police to react robustly and immediately to the anti-social use of motor vehicles.

If you witness a motor vehicle or mechanically propelled vehicle being driven/ridden in an anti-social manner in a public place or on a public road, or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at www.southwalespolice.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.
