Glossop Police Cadets complete a Speed Awareness Event at North Rd, Glossop (17th June 2026)

Glossop SNT - Youth Engagement/Speed Awareness

Yesterday evening (Wednesday 17th June) the Glossop Cohort of Derbyshire Police Cadets conducted a speed awareness event on North Rd, Glossop between 7.15 pm and 8.10 pm.

Taking part were 7 cadets and 3 cadet leaders, alongside Glossop YET (Youth Engagement Team) PCSO Buller. Split into 2 teams covering each side of the carriageway. 

This location had been been identified by local residents and councillors as a high risk road through speeding and speeding is one of the Policing Priorities chosen by the community in this area.  

The speed limit there is 30 mph.  During the event 80 plus vehicles drove by the teams and on this occasion none were recorded speeding. It was good to speak with residents and passers by who thanked the cadets for their efforts yesterday. It was an ideal opportunity for the Cadets to work with the SNT, for and with their community and in response to local Policing issues.

By completing this type of activity it increases/promotes the cadets visibilty in our community - it helps to encourage team work, also by learning and using the phonectic alphabet - including vehicle identification, it enhances their policing skills, in addition they are seen to be working in repsonse to local issues.
