I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Fraud (e.g. bogus callers, courier fraud, cyber crime), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Dyfed Powys Police are getting increased reports from businesses and post offices of fake and fraudulent £20 notes being circulated in the Ammanford area.
Please be vigilant in checking all cash you receive, as businesses may give you fake £20 notes without realising. Officers from Ammanford will be continuing to work with businesses to make sure they can identify these fake £20 notes to increase detection and avoid unknowingly circulating these fake notes to members of the public.
You are still at risk of falling victim to this fraud, so please make sure you check any bank notes you get.
The following is a list of ways to help identify fake notes:
1. Transparent Windows - There should be two clear windows in the note - The larger window contains a metalic image and fine detail that is difficult to counterfeit
2. Hologram - Tilt the note - The hologram should change between the words "Twenty" and "Pounds"
3. Raised print - Run your fingers over the words "Bank of England" and parts of the portrait. - Genuine notes have raised print you can feel
Please report any fake notes to Police using either through the non emergency 101 line or through Crimestoppers
