#YouSaidWeDid - Ward Top Priorities Update |
||
|
Good afternoon Resident,
#YouSaidWeDid
Just wanted to quickly let you know about the effort my colleagues and I have made regarding the top priorities across Minster Cliffs. These of course were voted for and decided by local residents that voted in the last priority poll that was sent out to everyone several months ago.
Over the last 2-3 months as a team around the island we’ve seized 7 eScooters, 2 eBikes, a car, a motorbike and a quadbike. The majority of these have been seized in the Minster-on-Sea area with several of the large vehicles being seized at Barton’s Point Coastal Park. Admittedly there are several other nuisance vehicles that my team have dealt with on the island, but I don’t have all of the data in front of me right now – apologies.
Where appropriate we’ve issued Section 59 warnings to the drivers of the vehicles. For those not in the know, Section 59 warnings are issued to persons that are seen driving or using their vehicles in an anti-social manner and if they are seen driving a vehicle that is being used in an anti-social manner within a year, police can seize said vehicle whether or not that person was driving the vehicle or was a passenger within it.
I understand the government is pushing for a change in legislation that will allow police officers to seize some nuisance vehicles straight away. This will be instead of issuing a warning to the driver and then seeing if they create anti-social behaviour again in the future. This enables police officers to take an even harder approach to dealing with this type of criminal behaviour. Unfortunately, I am not aware of a timescale of when this will be implemented, however.
With the days getting longer and warmer I’m sure you’ve all noticed the increase in people using vehicles in an anti-social manner again. Please report any information about the drivers (if known) to Kent Police via 101 or online and I will personally go round and speak to them. Alternatively, if you see any nuisance vehicles about please report this to Kent Police via 999, 101 and livechat.
Please stay cool & hydrated and have a great summer.
Kind regards, PC 15100 Saddington | ||
