As this year's FIFA World Cup kicks off, the Metropolitan Police is urging fans to enjoy the tournament safely - whether you’re watching from a fan zone, pub, or at home. Think of it as protecting your goal as well as celebrating the goals on screen. Just like football, safety is a team effort. Plan ahead, stay alert, and report anything suspicious - because the best defence off the pitch is awareness. Personal Safety & Nightlife – Don’t Get Caught Offside Plan Your Journey: Don’t leave it to extra time - book taxis or check late - night transport before the final whistle to avoid being stranded.Protect Your Valuables: Pickpockets love a crowded box. Keep phones and wallets secure and watch out for “over-friendly” strangers making a tackle for your belongings.Mind Your Drinks: Keep your drink in sight at all times and do not accept drinks from strangers. Event Security – Stay Match Ready Arrive Early: Beat the queues and allow time for security checks - every stadium has its own defensive line.Stay Alert: If you spot an unattended bag or something that doesn’t feel right, report it straight away - see it, say it, sorted.Follow Instructions: In an emergency, listen to announcements and stewards. Leave the area calmly - this is one moment where filming isn’t worth it and do not stop to collect your belongings. Behaviour & The Law – Play Fair Know Your Limits: Enjoy the game without going overboard. Alcohol-related violence or anti-social behaviour - including domestic abuse—will be dealt with firmly. No Room for Hate: Discriminatory or abusive behaviour, including online, could be a criminal offence. Football is for everyone - keep it respectful.Don’t Drink & Drive: Leave the car at home. Police will be carrying out strict enforcement throughout the tournament - don’t let poor decisions cost you the match. Remember: A great tournament is one where everyone gets home safely. Play your part, look out for each other, and enjoy the football. Please click here to complete the survey
