I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Road safety issues (Speeding), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. π¦ Community Speedwatch β Making Roads Safer Kent Police runs Community Speedwatch, a volunteer-led initiative focused on reducing speeding and improving safety. What is Speedwatch? π₯ Local volunteers, trained by Kent Police, monitor speeds at approved sites (20, 30, or 40 mph zones) using certified equipment. π Details of speeding vehicles are securely logged for 12 months. Repeat or excessive offenders may receive advisory lettersβand in some cases, personal visits from officers. Important: Speedwatch is educational, not enforcement. No fines or penalty points are issued directly, but the data helps target police action and inform road safety improvements. β
Does it work? Yes! Over 90% of drivers recorded speeding once are not seen again within 12 months, and overall speeding reduces in communities over time. π Want to help? If you can spare an hour a week, join us! π www.kent.police.uk/speedwatch On Friday evening, Officers from Ashford CSU stopped and dealt with the driver of a speeding vehicle on A20 Hothfield, Ashford.
The vehicle was seen to be driving at excessive speeds which is what drew the attention of Officers. Whilst we did not have speed monitoring equipment on board, the driver was still issued a S.59 Warning for the Anti-Social manner of his driving.
This warning will stay with both the driver and the respective vehicle for the next 12 months. Should the driver be seen in this vehicle or another, within this time frame and thought to be driving in an Anti-Social manner, the vehicle will be seized. This warning also stays with the vehicle used at the time, so if a different driver is seen to be using this same vehicle in an Anti-Social manner within this time frame, the vehicle can still be seized.
This is a great example of our comitment to tackle speeding vehicles and Anti-Social Behaviour in your areas.
