Information and opportunities for schools and youth engagement and parental support in Lambeth |
||
|
In the light of discussions with the new Council leadership we (the members of the team working on the creation of an Association to support NHW in Lambeth) agreed that, rather than organise separate networks to help Neighbourhood Watch street/estate groups support vulnerable neighbours, we should co-operate with those planning the new Lambeth VCS network of faith, health, mentoring, sports, welfare and youth groups, supported via five community hubs
Those interested in schools and youth engagement and parental support are therefore encouraged to sign up to the Lambeth Youth and Play Newsletter sent out by Oluwashola Rotibi ORotibi@lambeth.gov.uk. The text below the next couple of paragraphs is based on material in this week’s newsletter
We will also be working with and through Lambeth Council and Met Police on the use of Local Village Network to promote activities run by those with CRB checked staff and volunteers and local co-operation with Schools, Youth Groups and the Dedicated Ward Officers for Lambeth and Southwark. We are about to put flesh on previous plans for a round table to discuss objectives and opportunities.
In the mean time we are looking at an event on how to protect against Child financial exploitation in Brixton on 29th June. Please reply if you would be interested in either.
Please also reply if you would like to attend at the next Team Lambeth Volunteer Fair (Saturday 11th July, West Norwood Library) and meet fellow NHWS volunteers and those with whom we would like to work on cross-cutting programmes and projects. = = = Extracts and Summaries from the current Lambeth Youth and Play Newsletter - sign up here to receive future copies.
The government has launched a national drugs awareness campaign highlighting the serious risks linked to ketamine, counterfeit medicines containing synthetic opioids, and adulterated THC vapes. The campaign aims to alert young people to these dangers and reduce related harms. Campaign materials, including factsheets, educational content and digital assets, are now available on the FRANK website for use across schools, colleges, youth services and community settings. These cover the risks linked to ketamine, synthetic opioids in counterfeit medicines, and synthetic cannabinoids in adulterated vapes.
There are also campaign films (for use in digital or educational settings):
How you can help
Share and embed these materials locally – through your networks, communication channels, and engagement with young people.
Lambeth’s Our locally commissioned young people’s substance misuse provider, Change Grow Live (CGL), can support partners to deliver these messages effectively. They offer training and guidance to help staff approach the subject confidently with young people and service users. They can also deliver school assemblies, PSHE sessions and targeted workshops where local partners, such as schools or youth services, wish to collaborate directly.
If you have concerns about a young person in relation to substance misuse, please contact CGL directly or complete the online referral form below. Your support in sharing these materials and working with CGL will help strengthen local prevention efforts and protect young people from drug-related harms. For questions, contact us at SubstanceMisusePublicHealth@lambeth.gov.uk
