I wanted to provide you with an update regarding dangerous driving and speeding, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Dear Resident,
We hope this message finds you well. We are writing to you in response to increasing concerns from members of the Brentford East community regarding vehicle speeds—particularly within designated 20mph zones across the area.
Why 20mph Zones Matter
20mph speed limits are in place to protect everyone—pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists alike. Research consistently shows that lower speeds significantly reduce both the likelihood of collisions and the severity of injuries should an incident occur. In residential areas such as Brentford, where families, children, and vulnerable road users are present, adherence to these limits is essential for community safety.
Residents have reported:
Vehicles exceeding the 20mph limit, particularly during peak travel times Increased risk near schools, crossings, and junctions concerns for children, elderly residents, and cyclists.
So In response, your local policing team will be conducting targeted speed enforcement operations in identified hotspot areas Deploying speed monitoring equipment to gather accurate data, Increasing visible patrols to deter dangerous driving behaviour Working alongside the council to review signage, road layouts, and traffic calming measures.
Observing speed limits and encouraging others to do the same, Reporting persistent speeding concerns to local authorities Supporting local initiatives such as neighbourhood speed watch schemes. If you have specific information about locations or times where speeding is a regular issue, please share this—it helps us focus our efforts effectively.
Our Commitment: We are committed to keeping Brentford’s roads safe and ensuring that everyone can travel confidently within their community. Tackling speeding is a shared responsibility, and together we can make a real difference. If you would like to discuss this matter further or get involved in local safety initiatives, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your local policing team.
Thank you for your continued support in making Brentford East a safer place to live.
Yours sincerely,
Brentford East Neighbourhood Policing Team Metropolitan Police Service
If someone is driving a motor vehicle, they should always be doing so in a safe and considerate manner. Even momentary lapses in judgement can have life changing or devastating consequences for those in the vehicle or innocent bystanders. Activities such as street racing, cruising or performing tricks can count as anti-social behaviour.
