Digital Scams and crime prevention advice |

Dear North Hanwell Residents,
Following our recent community engagement event today at Hanwell Community Centre, we would like to raise awareness of the increasing number of digital and online scams affecting people of all ages.
Scammers often use emails, text messages, phone calls, social media, and fake websites to trick people into sharing personal information or sending money.
Top Tips to Stay Safe:
• Stop and Think – If something feels urgent, unexpected, or too good to be true, take a moment before responding.
• Never Share Personal Information – Your bank, the police, or government organisations will never ask for passwords, PINs, or security codes.
• Be Wary of Links and Attachments – Do not click on links or open attachments from unknown senders.
• Verify Requests Independently – If you receive a call, text, or email claiming to be from a trusted organisation, contact them using a phone number or website you know is genuine.
• Use Strong Passwords – Create unique passwords for different accounts and enable two-factor authentication where possible.
• Watch Out for Common Scams – These include parcel delivery scams, bank impersonation scams, investment fraud, romance scams, and fake online marketplace adverts.
• Keep Devices Updated – Install security updates on phones, tablets, and computers to help protect against cyber threats.
If You Think You’ve Been Scammed:
• Contact your bank immediately if money has been transferred or banking details have been shared.
