Local Priorities Shoplifting Message

I wanted to provide you an update regarding Shoplifting, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

On the 7th of June 2026, whilst we were on patrol we had recognised a prolific shoplifter who was wanted for numerous thefts totalling in thousands of pounds in losses for businesses in the area.
When approached, the suspect made off on foot, following a foot chase, officers detained the individual until responding colleagues arrived and made the arrest. This was a great result as the use of proactive patrols, local knowledge and information provided by the businesses had helped us make this arrest.

In regards to the CCTV on Woodford High Road, thankfully we managed to get another 3 month extension which will help out to deter crime and great value for evidence in case of any events in the area.

Shoplifting is a crime that can have a substantial negative impact on local businesses across London. If you notice anything suspicious or witness anyone shoplifting, please report it as soon as possible. These reports are invaluable in letting us build a picture of when and where shop lifters operate, meaning we can be in the right place at the right time to arrest those responsible.
