Scams In General |
||
|
Good morning all, with the fear of flogging a dead horse due to Scams being a hot potato at the present time, i just wanted to keep this topic fresh in your minds. Yesterday i dealt with a scam, although it wasn't romance fraud it had similar traits to it. I wont go into detail but suffice to say that should you book a service of any kind over the phone please pay due diligence by ensuring the number and the person or service is genuine. Do some checks. If as in this case you decide better of it and cancel or don't make the appointment scammers will often ask for substantial payments with threats of sending people round to your address, or letting your friends and family know. If you make the payment it will often be followed by a request for further monies for other obscure reasons. Best advice is not to send any money ( often asked to make a bank transfer ) but contact action fraud and the police should threats also be made. These scammers are often based abroad, in this case it was the Netherlands, and should they be identified ( highly unlikely ) its doubtful you will see any of the money. please stay alert scammers are trying new and variances of old ways to get your money.
