We would like to remind residents and visitors that gulls (commonly known as seagulls) are protected under UK law and must be left alone.
🐦 Common Gull Species in the UKSeveral types of gulls are commonly found across the UK, including in urban and coastal areas. All of the following species are protected under wildlife legislation: Although gulls may appear abundant locally, several species—particularly the Herring Gull and Common Gull—have experienced significant population declines and are now on conservation watch lists.
⚖️ The LawUnder the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, it is an offence to: We are issuing this message following a recent incident in which two gulls were reported to have been shot. This is a serious matter, and we are reminding all residents of their legal responsibilities regarding wildlife.
