Update following incident in Kirby Way, Walton-on-Thames |

We are aware of concerns regarding a significant police presence in Kirby Way, Walton-on-Thames, last night, Wednesday, 4 June, from around 8:35pm and into the early hours of this morning. Officers attended an incident involving a man whose behaviour gave rise to concerns for his welfare and the safety of others. Specialist officers, including a trained negotiator, attended the scene and the incident was safely resolved. A man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. Support from appropriate agencies is being provided following the incident. Borough Commander Inspector Christopher Thoday said: "I would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding while officers responded to this incident. We recognise that a significant emergency services presence can cause concern within the community. Our priority throughout was the safety and welfare of everyone involved, as well as the wider public. I am pleased that the incident was resolved safely and that the individual concerned is continuing to receive support."
