I wanted to provide you an update regarding Shoplifting, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Shoplifting in Burnt Oak – Positive Action & Results Tackling shoplifting remains a key priority for the Burnt Oak ward, and we’re committed to working closely with local businesses to address this issue.
In March 2026, there were 16 reported shoplifting offences in Burnt Oak, with no charges secured at that time. In May 2026, reports increased to 40 offences—however, through proactive policing and stronger engagement with retailers, 27 of these offences are in the process of being charged. This represents a 67.5% charge rate, which is significantly higher than the national average.
These results demonstrate the impact that consistent enforcement, intelligence-led policing, and strong partnerships with local shops can achieve. By focusing on known offenders and maintaining regular engagement with businesses, we are making meaningful progress.
We appreciate the continued support from the community and local retailers. Even small actions—such as reporting incidents promptly and sharing information—make a real difference.
We’ll continue this momentum into June and remain committed to reducing shoplifting and keeping Burnt Oak a safe place to live, work, and shop.

If you notice anything suspicious or witness anyone shoplifting, please report it as soon as possible. These reports are invaluable in letting us build a picture of when and where shop lifters operate, meaning we can be in the right place at the right time to arrest those responsible.
