Hot Weather and Inland Water Safety |
||
|
As temperature increase, local officers are reminding residents to be aware of the dangers associated with inland water ways.
Rivers, lakes, ponds and reservoirs can present significant risks, even during hot weather. Water temperatures often remain much colder then expected and can lead to cold water shock. Hidden hazards, strong currents and sudden changes in depth may also put people at risk.
Parents and guardians are urged to supervise children closely when near water and to discourage swimming in unauthorised or unsupervised locations.
If you see someone in difficulty in the water, call 999 immediately and ask for the appropriate emergency service. Do not enter the water yourself unless it is safe to do so.
Please enjoy the warm weather responsibly and help keep our community safe.
