Next week sees West Midlands Police celebrating all our wonderful Volunteers. Streetwatch, Speedwatch, Special Constables, Cadet Leaders, The Lock Up & Museum Staff and Puppy Walkers for the Dog Unit, they all do such a wonderful job.

You may remember last year Chelmsley Wood hosted a Volunteers Recruitment Event, this year Smiths Wood are hosting one on June 3rd 5-7pm at Arden Hall on Water Orton Road. Everyone who is interested in volunteering with WMP is welcome. Pop along and have a chat & join our amazing Family.

My personal thanks go out to Chelmsley Wood Streetwatch, this group of enthusiastic, friendly, residents are a fantastic addition to the Neighbourhood Policing Team. This month alone they have totalled 15hrs of patrols between them.

They look after your streets, reporting numerous accounts of Fly Tipping, Graffiti & abandoned vehicles to the relevant authorities.

It doesn’t seem enough to Celebrate them one week a Year, I appreciate them EVERY week, Thank you Guys.

Team News

The Neighbourhood Team have worked a couple of “through the night shifts” this set, patrolling our streets whilst the majority of us are asleep, I know this means you don’t see them out & about but I hope it offers some reassurance to known they are around in the small hours deterring any criminality.

There have been a couple of arrests for Assault over the last few days, one of which was for very serious injuries.

The mounted team have been patrolling the area today and have spent some time on the bus Interchange with our officers.

Crime Updates

Chelmsley Wood

At 22:30hrs on 22nd May youths were throwing rocks from the bridge over Moorend Ave near KFC. 2 vehicles received, reported, damage, a smashed windscreen and a dented roof.

At 11:00hrs on 24th May, Offender/s lock snapped the front UPVC door of a property on Stella Croft. They entered the home but left without taking anything, possibly disturbed.

At 01:30hrs on 25th May, an iPhone & jewellery were stolen from a vehicle on Newington Road.

Around 20:00hrs on 25th May, approximately 15 youths were messing around on a bus when they got off at the Interchange, they threw a rock which smashed a window.

Around 01:30hrs on 26th May, a moocher was open vehicle doors on Aspen Drive.

On 26th May the front bumper of a Citroen Berlingo was tampered with leaving it hanging off on Clover Ave.

At 23:40hrs on 25th May, 2 bags were stolen from an Audi vehicle on Salmon Drive.

Between 24th & 27th May, vehicle registration plates were stolen off a Renault Megane in Foxland Close.

Overnight 27th- 28th May, 2 males were trying vehicle doors on Alder Drive.

At 01:48hrs on 28th May, 4 males in black clothing with their faces covered attempted to steal a Ford Kuga from Piccadilly Close but were disturbed and made off.

Between 10:00hrs on 28th & 19:30hrs on 29th May, the rear passenger side window of a Hyundai was smashed on Waterson Croft.

Between 21:00hrs on 28th & 13:30hrs on 29th May, a Cupra Formentor was stolen from Longley Walk.

At 00:10hrs on 30th May, a yellow digger was damaged on Cole Bank Park off Partridge Close.

Around 00:20hrs on 30th May, a handbag was stolen from a VW Golf parked on Bishop Drive.

Fordbridge

At 04:30hrs on 23rd May, a male smashed the front window to North Solihull Sports Centre on Conway Road. He stole chocolates and pop before leaving through the broken window.

In the afternoon of 23rd, 4 male lockers at North Solihull Sports Centre were broken into and items stolen.

Between 23rd – 24th May, a Ford Mondeo was stolen from Bosworth Drive.

At 01:50hrs on 26th May, an insecure Peugeot 308 was entered on Oxford Grove and a handbag stolen containing a small amount of cash. The bag was found a short distance away.

At 14:41hrs on 29th May, a person doing wheelies on Forth Drive has caused damage to a Citroen vehicle.

Crime prevention

When you park your vehicle, follow these simple tips:

close your sunroof & windows, easily forgotten in the nice weather.

check you haven’t left your keys in the ignition

don’t keep your logbook in the car

double-check your central locking has actually locked – listen for the clunk/click noise (if you’ve got keyless then look through the window to check)

don't leave your car with the engine running

don't leave anything of value in the car
