🚲 Bicycle Theft Prevention – Protect Your Bike

We are reminding residents to take simple steps to help prevent bicycle theft in your area.

✅ Always lock your bike, even if leaving it unattended for a short time
✅ Use a strong D-lock and secure both the frame and wheels to a fixed, immovable object
✅ Lock your bike in well-lit, busy areas wherever possible
✅ Remove quick-release parts or take them with you if you can
✅ Avoid leaving your bike in the same public place for long periods

🔒 At Home:
✅ Store bikes inside where possible or in a secure shed/garage
✅ Ensure sheds and garages are locked with good quality locks
✅ Consider ground anchors or wall mounts for additional security

📝 Mark and Register Your Bike:
✅ Register your bike on BikeRegister (the national cycle database)
✅ Keep a record of the frame number and take photos of your bike

🚫 Opportunist thieves often target bikes that are poorly secured or left in isolated areas.

If you see suspicious behaviour around bike racks or storage areas, please report it. In an emergency, call 999. For non-emergencies, use Met Engage or call 101.
