HOT WEATHER AND YOUR PETS 🐕 |
||
|
Dear Residents,
As the warmer days and heatwaves approach us. Please just be reminded about your furry friends in these conditions. In particular, walking dogs at the hottest point of the day, and NEVER to leave pets in cars in the heatwave.
🚗🐾 Never Leave Pets in Cars – Even for a Minute As temperatures rise, it’s vital to remember just how dangerous a parked car can be for your pet. Even on a mild day, the temperature inside a vehicle can soar within minutes. On warmer days or during a heatwave, it rapidly becomes life-threatening.
🌡️ The danger is real Dogs (and other pets) don’t sweat like humans. They rely on panting to cool down, which is far less effective in a hot, enclosed space.
In a parked car: 🐶 No errand is worth the risk It might feel harmless to “just pop into a shop,” but even a few minutes is enough for serious harm to occur.
✅ What you should do instead: Plan pet-friendly trips where they’re never left alone in the car
⚠️ If you see a pet in distress in a vehicle Act quickly. Look for signs such as: Distress or agitation
Contact emergency services or your local animal welfare organisation immediately.
🐾 Walking Your Dog: Why Cooler Conditions Matter 🌤️ As much as our dogs love their daily walks, the weather plays a huge role in keeping them safe and healthy.
🌡️ Avoid walking during heatwaves When temperatures rise, even a short walk can become dangerous. Dogs can’t cool themselves the same way we do, and hot weather puts them at risk of: If it’s too hot for your hand to rest on the pavement for a few seconds, it’s too hot for their paws 🐾
During hot spells: ✅ Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
🍃 Cooler conditions are safer and more enjoyable Walking your dog in cooler weather is not only safer, but also more comfortable for them. They’re able to explore, exercise, and enjoy the walk without the stress of overheating.
Benefits of cooler walks: 🐕 Remember: Listen to your dog Every dog is different—breeds with thick coats, short noses, or health conditions are even more vulnerable in the heat.
When in doubt, always choose safety over routine. Your dog will thank you for it 🐶💛 | ||
