Please be careful around open water in the Rossendale Valley. Although it may look calm and inviting, the water can be extremely cold during the recent warmer weather. Cold water shock can affect your breathing and ability to swim within seconds, and hidden currents, deep areas, and slippery banks can quickly turn dangerous.
Every year people get into difficulty after underestimating the risks of reservoirs, quarries, rivers, and lakes. If you’re out enjoying the area, stay safe, avoid entering the water, supervise children closely, and keep dogs under control near steep edges.
No swim is worth risking your life. Stay safe and look out for each other. |
