Met Engage Message – Hot Weather, ASB & Water Safety

With the warmer weather continuing, Lewisham Neighbourhood Policing Teams are reminding residents to enjoy the sunshine safely and responsibly.

We are aware that hot weather can lead to an increase in anti-social behaviour (ASB), including large gatherings, noise, open drinking, and unsafe use of parks and open spaces. Officers will be carrying out high-visibility patrols across the borough to provide reassurance and take action where necessary.

We are also highlighting the importance of water safety. Open water locations such as rivers, lakes and ponds may look inviting, but they can be extremely dangerous. The water is often much colder than expected, with hidden hazards and strong underwater currents. Entering the water can quickly lead to difficulty swimming or getting out.

We would ask parents and carers to speak to young people about the risks of entering open water, and to encourage safe alternatives such as supervised leisure facilities.
