Cannabis farm and male arrested |
||
|
Good morning Resident,
Early this morning, the Ashton Hurst Neighbourhood Team executed a section 8 PACE drugs warrant at an address on Broadoak Road.
On entry, officers discovered that all three bedrooms and the loft had been converted for the cultivation of cannabis, with between 100 and 150 plants found in various stages of growth. A number of large vacuum‑sealed bags containing harvested cannabis, ready for distribution, were also recovered from the address.
A male located inside the property was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and abstracting electricity. He was taken into custody at Ashton‑under‑Lyne where he remains for questioning.
It is also important to recognise that cannabis farms are frequently linked to organised crime groups, who use the profits to fund further criminal activity within our communities. In many cases, these operations are connected to modern slavery, with vulnerable individuals trafficked, exploited, or forced to tend the grows under threat or coercion.
We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Your information plays a vital role in helping us disrupt organised crime, protect vulnerable people, and keep our communities safe.
If you have concerns about organised crime or modern slavery, you can report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or seek advice through the Modern Slavery Helpline on 08000 121 700.
