I wanted to provide you an update regarding Violent crime, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Police were called at 01:12hrs on Wednesday, 20 May to reports that a car had crashed into a property on Whitton Road, Hounslow, and a fire had spread from the car to the business premises. Officers attended with the London Fire Brigade and firefighters extinguished the fire. There was damage to the property, but no injuries were reported. Police enquiries subsequently indicated that the vehicle had been driven towards the property and appeared to have been deliberately set alight by a suspect, who subsequently fled. The incident is being treated as a suspected arson. No arrests have been made at this time and extensive police enquiries continue. The investigation is being led by officers from the Met’s West Area command unit. They are keeping an open mind over the motive behind the attack, but at this stage they are not treating it as a hate crime and it is believed there is no risk to the wider public. We are aware of the concern that the community will have following this incident. Police patrols have been increased in the area and anyone with concerns is asked to speak to officers. Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting CAD 362/20MAY or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
