I wanted to provide an update regarding Violence against women and girls, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Op JOG-ON Harassment of women and girls whilst running has been identified as a national issue and concern. Women especially runners identified concerns around feeling unsafe, not wanting to run after dark providing examples of harassment they had experienced and witnessed. There was clear misunderstanding and behaviours had become the accepted norm, not something they felt the police would be able to take any action against.
As such Finsbury Park Town Centre Team have set forward plans with a 3 stage approach that covers enforcement, engagement and education.
As part of the ‘Jog-On’ initiative PC’s Ellie Flavin, Jenny Coldham, Portia Haywood Socrates Ioannou and PS Lazarou have patrolled in plain clothes today in locations around Finsbury Park were concerns were most prevalent. 3 males were stopped spoken to and ASB warnings issued.
