Good afternoon!
This week marks the beginning of our bi-annual Operation Sceptre.
Op Sceptre is run by the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC), and is a chance for teams to speak to local communities, deepen their ongoing conversations about knife crime and remind people of the work we’re doing day-to-day to keep knife crime out of the county.
Over the course of the week, you'll see officers all over the county taking part in a range of operations and activity. This includes visiting schools and delivering inputs to both late-primary and secondary students, as well as hosting pop-up stalls in colleges across the county.
There will also be knife sweeps conducted, where officers scan parks and recreational spaces for weapons, sometimes with the help of a metal detector.
As well as this, our Safer Neighbourhood Teams will be around hosting a number of events in your local communities, where you can speak to them and find out more.
Yesterday, your local Safer Neighbourhood Team attended Chaddesden Park to conduct a knife sweep alongside Public Protection Officers, and Derby Homes Officers.
Officers also attended Breadsall Hilltop Primary School, Cherry Tree Hill Primary School, Borrow Wood Primary School, Asterdale Primary School, Cavendish Close Junior School, Beaufort Primary School, where they delivered presentations to spread awareness to Year 6's regarding the dangers of knives/knife crime.
Officers also conducted plain clothed patrols in key hotspot areas where they arrested a female for being unfit to drive, being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs, and an assault on a Police Constable. Investigations are ongoing.
We also assisted in house to house enquires regarding a concern for a female, and also assisted in attempting to locate a suicidal male.
There will be an update later today on what we've also been up to.
