Sceptre As part of a nationally run campaign, Operation Sceptre provides a snapshot of the valuable year-round work undertaken across Nottinghamshire by police, partners, and the local community, on tackling the issue of knife crime. Throughout this week of action 18th - 24th May 2026, we shine a light on a range of proactive policing and public engagement work being undertaken with a focus on educating people, especially young people, about the consequences of carrying a knife.
2019 Offensive Weapons Act The updated 2019 Offensive Weapons Act makes it illegal to possess dangerous weapons in private, including knuckledusters, zombie knives, telescopic truncheons, and death star knives. It is an offence to: Save a life, bin the knife Forever knife amnesty bins Keen to rid our community of illegal knives, our Forever Amnesty bins, provide members of the public with the chance to dispose of any knives anonymously with no questions asked. These bins are available year-round and are located at the following police stations: How can I report knife crime? We need people to keep giving us information about knife crime in their areas so we can help keep them safe. We all need to work together to combat knife crime and we'd urge anyone with information on knife crime in their local community to report it. You can report knife crime in several ways: To report anonymously via: Crimestoppers or by calling 0800 555 111. In an emergency, always dial 999.
Our partners At Nottinghamshire Police we work closely with our partner agencies and local community engagement suppliers to provide a cohesive approach to tackling knife crime. Violence Reduction Partnership The VRP is a Nottingham based partnership that brings together specialists from local government, public health, education, policing, and criminal justice to work with communities and the third sector to reduce serious violence by understanding and tackling its underlying causes. The VRP believe that intervening early to prevent issues emerging is the best way to ensure children, young people, families and communities in Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County thrive.
