Vehicle thefts across the district

Good morning,

We would like to make residents aware of a recent increase in burglaries across the district where a suspect is entering homes during the daytime to steal car keys, before taking vehicles from driveways.

In many cases, entry has been gained through insecure doors or by opportunistically accessing properties while occupants are at home but distracted. Once keys are located, vehicles are quickly removed.

What you can do to protect yourself:

Keep all doors locked, even when you are at home or in the garden.

Do not leave keys in sight of doors, windows, or letterboxes.

Store keys out of view and away from entry points – ideally in a secure location.

Consider using a signal-blocking (Faraday) pouch for keyless entry vehicles.

Ensure windows and doors are closed and secure when you leave a room.

Be mindful of unknown persons in your neighbourhood and report any suspicious activity.

Where possible, use additional security such as steering wheel locks, alarms, or CCTV/doorbell cameras.

Please remain vigilant. If you see anything suspicious, report it to Kent Police via 101, or dial 999 in an emergency.

Your awareness and simple preventative measures can make a significant difference in reducing these offences.
