Court Result: Man Prosecuted for Driving Offences in Hertford |

|
A 35 year old man from Harlow has been convicted of perverting the course of justice, driving whilst on a mobile phone and failing to comply with a red traffic signal.
On 16 October 2025 Mujahid Azimi was spotted by PC Michael Henry from the Rural Operational Support Team, using his mobile phone whilst driving on North Road, Hertford. Azimi then failed to stop at a red light causing pedestrians to move quickly onto the pavement. Azimi was identified as the registered owner of the van and a notice of intended prosecution was sent to him.
However, Azimi subsequently denied being the driver of the van, claiming to have sold the vehicle the week before and provided false documents to this effect. Suspecting that this information was false PC Henry investigated further and discovered that this was indeed the case.
Azimi was then interviewed and eventually admitted the offences. He appeared at St Albans Crown Court on Monday 13 April where he was sentenced to six months imprisonment – suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work and was ordered to pay over £1000 in fines and costs. Azimi was also given nine points on his licence.
Commenting on the case PC Henry said ““This was a deliberate attempt to mislead the authorities and prosecution. Using a mobile phone at the wheel and ignoring traffic signals puts other road users at serious risk and trying to pervert the course of justice only compounds that danger. While the sentence was suspended, if Azimi commits any further motoring offences he will be recalled to prison to serve his six month sentence. This case should serve as a clear reminder that we will investigate thoroughly and take action against anyone who seeks to undermine the justice system.”
